FAQ

  • What are you?

We’re a registered 501(c)(3) with the IRS which was approved mid-June, and are designated as a 509(a)(2) public charity.

  • Who are you?

We’re Living on a Prayer Co., we intend on building a 15 bed rehabilitation facility that will work with some of the most difficult individuals to treat; unhoused individuals who have at least 5 years of substance use issues, 5 years of being in and out of incarceration, and 5 years of housing instability. Mostly this will include individuals who are too mentally ill to have their needs met by the local jails or local homelessness resources, and are too dysregulated to participate in outpatient services because they can’t make their appointments. Our facility will be fully disability accessible and we plan on breaking down barriers to make rehabilitation accessible through the 7th judicial system as well, possibly as an alternative sentence to incarceration.

  • What does your name mean?

We’re named for Bon Jovi’s song, “Living on a Prayer”, because sometimes all people need is a helping, “hand, and we’ll make it, I swear”.

  • What does your logo mean?

Our logo features a hand reaching out to symbolize the lyric, “Take my hand and we’ll make it, I swear”. It’s set within a triangle which stands for Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is a theory in psychology that explains human motivation through a hierarchical structure of five basic needs. These needs, presented as a pyramid, are: physiological, safety, love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization. The theory suggests that lower-level needs must be reasonably satisfied before individuals can focus on higher-level needs. The hand is reaching out above rising waters.

  • What's the difference between a shelter and a rehab facility?

A homeless shelter provides temporary refuge and basic necessities for individuals experiencing homelessness, while a rehabilitation facility (rehab) focuses on treating addiction and helping individuals achieve sobriety. Shelters prioritize immediate safety and basic needs, whereas rehabs offer structured programs with therapeutic and medical support.

  • What makes you different from other rehabs?

While we will still focus on substance use and mental health, we will also be focusing on rehabilitating our clients cognitively, which will improve their memory, data retention, thought processing ability, and problem-solving skills in order to process and retain the resources and skills we provide through group and individual therapies, family therapy, occupational therapy, life skills groups, and activity therapy. Our approach is based on the science behind neurogenesis and neuroplasticity, which is the brain’s ability to regenerate and heal. We’ll also have a strong team of case managers that will help our clients get important identification documents, apply for disability if needed, complete daily administrative tasks, enroll in legal assistance, and make sure they’re compliant with their enrollments in Medicaid and any other programs they participate in.

  • Where does your funding come from?

2/3rds will come from Medicaid as we tap into the Long Term Services and Supports Program, also known as “HCBS” Home and Community Based Supports. Around 1/3rd will come from Grants and Donations, and we have a fully developed Fundraising Development Plan.

  • Aren't you worried about Medicaid funding cuts?

Not at this time, as the State of Colorado discovered before creating the HCBS program that it’s cheaper to pay for limited supports that keep mostly independent individuals in their homes or in alternative living scenarios than it is to pay for everyone to be in nursing homes, especially when they don’t inherently need round the clock care. So while there may be reductions in funding, we’re confident that the program will remain.

  • What are you fundraising for?

Right now we’re fundraising to cover startup operational costs, but in the long run we’ll be fundraising to build our 15 bed rehab facility. We hope to break ground in early 2027 and apply for capital grant funding to cover 2/3rds of that cost. We’re working with LOOK Buildings out of Delta to create a basic floor plan and get to work on our capital campaign!
